Basically, I want to know if my ONLY option is to replace it with another 6990M or if another kind of video card can fit in its place. I know much more about Desktops and their limitations... but with a Laptop I have to worry about size and if it'll fit with the heat sinks provided. So any help and personal experiences would be appreciated.

Have you looked at this? They are both MXM3.0 and you can use the same heat sink.
