I don't know whether this drive is the new/ old one.
I recall hearing somehwre that, the new Samsung drivers using RB22 controller were faster than old gen.
Any ideas on what controller is this drive using?
SAMSUNG 2,5" 128GB MLC SSD
MMD0E28G5MPP-0VA
Firmware: VAM05D1Q
Wgat read/ write speeds can i get on it? Is it worth $210?

If I recall correctly, that firmware is (fairly) current and supports TRIM under Win7.
As to whether a Samsung SSD is worth $210 - I vote no (with my experience with them).
Not when the obviously much faster SandForce based drives like my Inferno go on sale for $170 (sometimes).
Good luck. -
Or another alternative: OCZ Onyx 2 120GB with Sandforce controller is listed at less than $200.

Post

states that TRIM is not supported and an Firmware Update is not available.
Seems to me this is no good deal. -

maximinimaus,
Thanks - that is the post I thought I was remembering properly - (I wasn't!).
Yeah, definitely better deals out there than this drive. -
Thanks for the advice, looks like I'll hold off buying this drive. It doesn't actually specify on the auction the production date...
I've taken a look at the Onyx 2 and it looks good, especially price-performance wise, anyone knows the ETA for it? -
BUMP
I've actually came back to the Samsung SSD BUT A NEWER VERSION. THis is because I found the second gen with RB22J controller for a good price (the second gen has the 0VB ending on the S/N).
The firmware version is VBM19D1Q. This one does not suppor trim, but I've found the following update which should brin in trim. Someone told me that OCZ Summit drivers are 100% the same as Samsung, only with different sticker.
Could I apply this update (to enable trim): OCZ Technology for the Samsung drive? -
I have a Samsung and upgraded the firmware.
Take a look at my post

I believe VBM19D1Q does already support trim.
