Hey guys,
I'm new to the SSD realm and getting a Samsung 470 64gb soon. I don't see many posts or threads about this and wondering if anyone have any thoughts on it.
One of my concerns is what's the power consumption on this thing (compared to other brands) and it's reliability.
Thanks

It is very reliable, up there with intel. Don't know about power consumption. I think these were used in macs, and macs love long battery life, so I cant see them being bad power consumption.

Reliability? Your guess is as good as anyone else's - but Samsung along with Intel are the only two names I would trust personally.
Power consumption? Idle power usage is the lowest (when the SSD was introduced), but high 4K R r/w scenario's and/or constant sequential writing will make it be the worst possible choice.

Great SSD. I highly recommend it, especially if youre looking at power consumption.
My M11xR2 now only uses 10-11k mW per hour, sometimes even as low at 8k compared to a constant 14-15k before with a mechanical HDD.
The speeds are great for me too. Its my first SSD so I dont have anything else to compare it to, but to the stock HDD, its great. Its $109 on Tigerdirect, and with the coupons theyre sending out, you can get it for $99 no tax. Highly recommend it. -
The StorageReview benchmarks are pretty much representative of most other benchmarks of the Samsung 470 series SSDs. The 64GB version will be a tad bit slower than the 256GB version that is tested simply because there aren't as many memory chips, but it's roughly the same.
From my use of the 470 in my X120e, I can't tell any difference between it and the Intel X25-M 80GB (G2) I have in my T500. The 470 has some of the best sequential read/write times of SATA II SSDs, which theoretically results in fast transfer times. In terms of 4K read/write times, the 470 also performs quite well, although a lot of the SandForce drives are faster, which corresponds to general system responsiveness.
Power consumption is supposed to be roughly on par with most SandForce drives, with the 470 beating SF drives in some categories and falling behind in others.
Reliability as well seems to be a strong suit--I haven't heard of anyone having any real issues with the 470 aside from flashing firmware (which is supposed to be a real pain; much more involved of a process than Intel drives).
Overall, a nice and reliable SSD that you should be able to easily find on eBay for $90-110. -
I've read it has 1 of the fastest sequential writes, even beating some Sandforce controlled ssds, hits 220-230mb/s where the sandforce usually hits at around the 200mb/s mark..as for random 4k (which is more important IMHO) it can do better..but if ur going with a sandforce drive, reliability will be the issue..I'm planning to get an ssd myself and I still haven't decided on what brand to get..But samsung 470 is looking like one of the best choices right now..Specially since it does better than the intel..

Sandforce 1 drives write less than 100 MB/sec with incompressible data. Samsung 470 writes that with more than 250 MB/sec.

Samsung 470 64Gb, I have one installed,my battery life went one hour plus, the notebook is much cooler, I have had no problems with it at all,,I get around 250mb/s read and 170mb/s write consistently with CrystalDiskMark.
3 Year warranty from Samsung . Everything runs faster on mine,,Virus Scanner(Quick and Full),Chkdsk,sfc/scannow from cmd ,Windows Defender,Web browsing , boot up to Win 7 GUI, shutdown, backup and restore , all is much faster than spinners-HDD in my real world applications.
Cheers

What about real world performance? Boot-up time compared to other SSD? as well as application loading? Does anyone have comparative benchies on real world performance of this drive against say an intel or vertex 2?

I read the review, compared it to intel, seems like intel does better on loading apps or boot up? did i read it right?
-
Is the x25-v faster than the x25-m?
-
Boot & load performance is very similar.
