I just purchased a Samsung SSD 256 GB from Amazon which was listed as new condition. I received it today and noticed that the factory plastic seal/shrink wrap around the entire box was missing, which leads me to believe that they sent me a used one. The reason being is that the last Samsung SSD exact same size had the plastic encasement. The only difference I speed is that this model has ghost recon game bundled while my first one had Batman game bundled. So, maybe packaging has just changed?
For anybody that's recently purchased a new Samsung SSD 256, did your box have a plastic encasing?

Well, you could use CrystalDiskInfo to check the power on count and powered on time. Note that the values likely won't be zero since Samsung will likely have tested the drive at least a little.

I bought a 256GB Samsung 830 SSD with the Norton Ghost kit recently and it didn't come with a plastic shrink wrap. Rather it's protected by the sticker seal at the sides, once you peel it off it becomes chequered to indicate that its been tampered with.

There should be stickers that if cut will let you know if someone opened the box.

Excellent, that's the reassurance that I need. Now I feel comfortable opening and installing it.thanks!

They came in retail boxes and had stickers at the top and bottom of the box. You can't open the box w/o cutting/tearing the stickers.
My dad has 1 more 830 SSD and although I wasn't the first to open it, it also had the same stickers. I doubt it had any sort of shrink wrap. -
Good luck.
