Hey guys I'm looking to download the firmware for my Samsung 840 Pro ssd after I've had 2 drives fail in 2 months however I'm having trouble downloading it, I'm downloading it from the Samsung site and it's an enc file in a zip file, I can open it in Bitzipper however I can't see the files inside, is there something I'm doing wrong? I'm sure it's an easy fix

2 drives failed on you within the past 2 months? What brand and model?

My bad bro! I did read, the title says 840 firmware and nothing else, and then you mentioned 2 dead drives without any other specifics so that made it a little vague to me. That's strange that you had two 840 Pros die, I hope the 3rd one doesn't suffer the same fate.

Have you tried downloading the firmware using Samsung's Magician?

You download it through Samsung Magician and let it install it for you. You can`t update the firmware without Magcian since ENC files are only readable by that program.

    It's all good.

Is it still possible to update the firmware by creating a bootable USB like with previous versions of Magician (prior to 4.0)? I remember the previous versions you could do it within Windows using Magician (as show above) and the other way was by creating a bootable USB.

EDIT: Just checked, I'm also on version 4.0 and that feature does not appear to be there anymore. I guess in my case, using an 830, I could go back to version 3.x and create a bootbale USB (on the latest firmware anyways) but would it work and detect an 840? My guess is maybe not since Magician 4.0 came out with the 840 series if im not mistaken.
