Luna, it's not the retailers... I've looked on Pricespy which compares prices from all online retailers here in the UK and the Sandisk's price has been going down and is still going down.. The Samsung's price is still close to the release price .. And it's not a case of some retailers blowing up the price, the whole market price is like that...

If anything, Samsung has been setting the price and ripping people off here in the UK. I can understand in the US that the price is similar for both but at least here, it's a total joke.. The difference between the cheapest options for both is like £170 now.. Samsung can get lost.. I'll never buy their crappy products for that price...

Sandisk Extreme Pro 1TB is £289-299 (depend on the seller)

Just like in US, Samsung 850 Pro 512GB cost the same as 480GB Sandisk here in Norway as well.
Its a no brainer to get the 850 Pro

I can't say anything about prices in Norway, but the best that I've been able to come up with in the U.S. (non-feebay) is $294 for Sandisk and $344 for Samsung in the 480/512 segment, which is roughly a 17% difference.

Unfortunately, for the capacity that I'm interested in (960GB/1TB) things look even worse, so I'll just wait for the prices to settle down a bit hopefully.

Tom if youre going to quote me and reply at LEAST be respectful and actually read my reply lol. Thx

Also whats up with the "crappy" statement? You know they're good, noones telling you they're #1 #1 #1 People tend to say crazy things when upset or defensive or attempting to mingle

    Please elaborate.

Lol.. Like I said before both drives are good and performance is almost identical. Therefore you need to choose cheapest option.

Thank you, and thats a major deciding factor 2 after comparing and reading up. I dont need to psych myself out and call the competitor crappy to help justify my decision, thats just lame.

    1. Luna take a chill pill :)
    2. Get what you want.
    3. I have a pathological hatred of Samsung because their TV, Galaxy S3, Series 5 ultrabook has been nothing but junk for me.. Weird issues, overheating and god knows what... I'll never buy their stuff again..

It's one thing to recommend one product over another due to a price difference but calling one "crappy" without backing it up - which you haven't done to any credible degree - is meaningless.

    Hello,

I am planning to buy the 850 EVO 500 GB and I wanted to ask about the TLC speed degradation, that has been mentioned here. Especially, what kind of degradation it is. Is the degradation caused by filling the drive up
(more % of capacity), or does the speed degrade after some time just by using it (mileage). And I don´t mean the "older than two months files" slowdown from 840 EVO. I researched it and it was supposed to be caused
by the drive not recognizing voltage changes of longer stored data. So that, in my opinion, is a coding problem and should be fixable (I do not know if it was fixed and I did not find any definitive answer yet). I prefer the
850 EVO, because here in Czech republic, the Sandisk Extreme Pro is even more expensive than the Samsung 850 EVO.

    ^^^^^^^^

850 EVO is way too new of an offering to show any problems, and that's exactly what would keep me from buying it at this moment. At any price. But that's me.

Problem/fix or a supposed fix/results were all in regards to 840 EVO, get ready for a nice long read here:

Samsung 840 EVO read speed drops on old-written data in the drive - Page 150

There are other drives in the similar capacity that I'd definitely choose over EVO, but have no clue how they're priced in CZ...these would include Crucial MX100/M550, OCZ Vector 150 and Intel 730 apart from the aforementioned Sandisk Extreme Pro...

    My $0.02 only

    Happy shopping.

Thanks for the response. Well I think I will go for the 850 EVO as a gamble. It will be my first SSD, so it can only get better :D. It may turn out to be pretty good. After all,
people seem to be satisfied with the 850 pro (But they also were with the 840 pro I suppose).

If you can afford it, go for the 850 Pro, it's a whole different animal than 850 EVO.

840 Pro was a completely different - and much better IMO - drive than 840 EVO as well.

    Your $$$, your call.

True about 840 Pro being much better than 840 EVO, but that's not the case with 850 Pro vs. 850 EVO for higher capacities (500GB+) which have almost identical performance (850 Pro faster in most cases by very small margin, but in some cases 850 Evo is actually faster.)
Personally I wouldn't bother recommending any Intel SSDs as neither their price nor performance is competitive.
Also there was a deal for the M550 with the 512GB option being sold for $169 (that's $0.33/GB!) but it might be expired by now.

    Different people have different priorities.

Mine is reliability, and non-SandForce Intels such as current 730 have been stellar in that respect in my experience.

    Obviously, to each their own.

A couple of months passed, does anyone have experience with the 1TB 850 EVO? I bought the mSATA version and I am curious if I should expect any slowdowns, stability issues, etc. One single amazon review mentions BSOD after wakeup and only the Anandtech review mentions instability of their copy during heavy load. Other than these, heaven't seen anything bad.

I'd be surprised if the 850 Evo will be hit with the Read Speed Degredation of Old Data bug that the 840 Evo was (is maybe) affected by - I think it will be fine.

I hope so too, my drive is only a couple of days old - so far so good.
