I replaced my hdd a few months ago with a Samsung hdd. I put a trial of windows 7 on the computer around a month ago and Windows reported a hard disk failure warning and when rebooting I would get a smart disk failure warning. If I do a defrag and reboot the warnings go away. I downloaded the Samsung disk check program that I had to burn to a disk and ran the disk check and it reports pass on everything and no errors. I even did a light format with the program and reinstalled everything and still get the error reporting problem quite frequently. I currently have a registered copy of 7 Pro and it seemed the problem had gone away but it came back. I tried a different defrag program and have it set to defrag the registry every time I rebot. I just did this. This is annoying me because the waste of time it creates to get rid of the warnings. I would like to get a different hdd if it will solve the problem. I can get no help from the manufacture without there program reporting a problem. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to solve this problem. I have ran every sypware and anti virus program available and they show no problems.

If certain hardware (RAM, HDD, optical drives, USB keys, memory cards, etc.) shows a repeatable glitch to me, then it is ditched for another (working) part.

When it seems like a problem is with the HDD - keep in mind that it can also be the RAM, the drivers, O/S install or some combination of two or more of these.

Have you verified that the RAM is 100% stable? Try one stick (in each slot too...) and see if this issue persists.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. The ram has been in this computer for 2.5 years with XP pro on it. I Ran a trial of 7 Unlimited on it for a while and this problem came up but got less frequent. I purchased a copy of the 7 Pro last weekend. The problem increased when I did a clean install and loaded all my 3rd party programs. I found someone with pretty much the same problem on another forum and they suggested trying to defrag it. I was using the Puran defrag and switched to the defraggler. After several defrags the hard disk warning and the smart disk warning have stopped showing up. I am thinking the Samsung smart hdd is to smart and I will probably replace it.
