I was looking at some SSDs and ran across this. Anyone have any experience with it? You can pick one up on eBay for about $200. I had a OCZ Core SSD, which was a fast reader, but terrible at writing. Thankfully I didn't loose to much flipping it on eBay. I haven't been following it much since and just wondered if this was any good. I don't need much space on my notebook.

I have the 64GB version of said drive. Picked it up from an NBR member for $110. You could certainly say it runs like a dream; the rated sequential speeds are spot on, and it still bests almost every cheap MLC SSD in 4KB random writes. It also has one of the lowest power consumption figures (this one according to Tom's Hardware) out of everything in the current SSD generation.

If you have a Fry's near you, I've seen the a 32GB Mtron rebrand for $200 at my local Fry's. At that price point, I'd rather get a new Mtron rebrand (which is slightly faster) than an eBay'ed Samsung. Just my two cents though.

Thanks for the info. It looks like you got a heck of a deal. Sadly I'm located in the Midwest. The closest Frys is the better part of a day away. Which Mtron drive were you referring to?

SSD cost too much for too little space to buy for right now.

These are the drives that're being sold at my local Fry's, only the 16GB and 32GB versions, though:

    http://www.imation.com/en/Imation-P...-and-MOBI-Series/Solid-State-Drive-MOBI-3000/

They're branded by Imation, but they're obviously Mtron MOBI 3000 drives. On the boxes they even say "powered by Mtron" or something along those lines. I was actually going to buy one at Christmas, but then I found my Samsung...

I have the OCZ rebadged 64 GB SLC model and when I had in my Thinkpad before I upgraded to a bigger SSD. Have you tried Rocketdisk.com because they are selling a mtron 64 GB SSD SLC for 389.00.

Yeah, but at $389 you might as well pitch in the extra $10 and get yourself an X25-M...

Who cares about space? I want speed. My Vista partition is 11GB(I could strip it more if need be), 3GB for music, maybe few movies if I want to watch one, that's all I need. I got a 120GB external drive or I can get the ultrabay if needed.

Would this be the Imation drive?

Yeah, if those pictures are right, that should be it. Watch out as they come in both 2.5" and 3.5" models.
