not surprised at all, crappy download servers that are limited to a few downloads, Magician has never done anything special to NVMe SSDs, no OS performance Optimizations, no RAM Cache, and now no over-provisioning so there is 0 reason to use it, all they did was revamp the UI and add telemetry  @tilleroftheearth @Mr. Fox @Papusan @ssj92

HaHa. "Maybe" useful for those who don't know exactly what Samsung model they have, LOL
What a Joke. The most important is the telemetry part..!! And The only reason they developed and throw out this piece of Trashware!!

They limit the amount of downloads the first week when they release new SSD software or firmware. Its in case something happens, they can pull it and only a small number of people are affected. Remember the 850 Pro FW update early last year? After that, they started adding download limits for the first week.

And before you say "they need to properly TEST their stuff before releasing", there's only so much you can test.

There's no winning with you crybabies. You either go, "Boo there's a download limit for the first week" or "boo, there's a wide spread issue, Samsung should've cut it off at the beginning."

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

The SSD's already have built in OP, and setting OP is easy as hell, you just have to shrink a partition on the drive in Disk Management. The SSD will use any unallocated space as OP space.

That collect info part has been there for several versions of Magician now. Have you actually read through it? All they collect is info on the drive and your system specs. Its for internal use only.

ok Mr. Samsung Laywer, don't bite us. Now tell me, what use is SSD Magician again?

Seems you have not read the OP properly....

    - No more built in OP (I know how to OP and can teach you lessons about OP, but the fact still remains, it's NOT THERE for people who do want that easy method which WAS there)
    - No OS Tweaks/Optimization (not that I would ever use it)
    - No RAPID Mode (feature that was introduced with the 840EVO/PRO now gone, Samsung promised they would get it back soon for the 950 Pro but never did)
    - No ability to manually check for firmware updates, it just says you're on the latest firmware
    - Drive Health is now messed up with hex values instead of actual numbers:

Yeah I don't like it if they limit downloads and I don't like it if they brick my SSD, and I don't like it when they remove features and add telemetry

    1. If you wanna complain about lack of OP section, ok, fine, just saying its not that big of a deal. Also, I meant the drives themselves have hidden OP set at the Factory. Its part of the IDEMA standard. I think its 7%.
    2. The 950 Pro never had OS optimization. The options that are in there only affect SATA drives. And Windows 8 and 10 are already optimized for SSDs, so OS optimization isn't really necessary for the SATA drives either and if you complain about Windows 7 and the Sata drives, go back to 4.9.7.
    3. I've never seen them promise RAPID mode for any of the NVME drives. The NVME SSDs are faster than the RAM caching that RAPID mode would use. Also, aren't you the one who also hates RAPID mode? Always posted those links to the first RAPID mode review in 2013 and call it CRAPID mode?
    4. I don't understand this one. If your on the latest...then you're on the latest. What more do you want? If there's an update to the FW, it will prompt you.
    5. Did you ever use any previous version of Magician with the 950 Pro? It always gave the values in Hex for the 950 Pro in the SMART Data. Just that in this version they added 0x to the hex values.

There, I've corrected it for you...

Anyways, @Palorim12 if you don't want people on the interwebz criticizing your employer, maybe y'all should stop it with the abysmal "customer service". Have you tried to RMA anything made by Samsung?

lol, well, live and learn. I don't do business with Samsung for many reasons, bad product quality and warranty service ranks number 1 and 2 respectively.
But to be fair, don't assume warranties are international unless specifically stated.

What makes you think I work for them? Because I don't hate them? Does that mean I work for the government too or Trump?

Yes, I have done RMAs with them, no issues. I work in a small computer shop and I help my customer's do the RMA by doing it on their behalf. The only time I've ever had a problem is when I got a customer who wants an Advanced RMA and Samsung doesn't provide that. What issues do you have with their RMA process?

I agree, no where does it say its international.

I noticed, once again, you can't refute any of my points. You do this alot on Overclock too. You always either don't respond and let the thread die or completely ignore what I said.

Well when you're openly insulting other forum members for voicing their concerns, I'm more inclined to think you work for them than if you were a bystander.

Anyways, as for issues with the RMA process, how's not being able to get an RMA number without extreme effort to start? No responses to emails/ forms, and the forever que for the csr (within working hours!). Every time I had an issue, it takes days of phone calls, holds and transfers between different departments to get anything done. That is IF they decide that they're going to try to help you as opposed to rushing you off the phone. Funniest statements from Samsung reps were among the lines of "your galaxy nexus is made by google, call google for hardware support", "your disk drive (an SSD btw) is not designed to work with Dell computers", "the fridge is only supposed to last a year, as stated by the warranty in the booklet (sticker on fridge says otherwise)", and "there's no issue with your washer, you're not supposed to wash jeans with them, your warranty is now void".

Between their shoddy electronics and appliances, it's probably one of the only brands that I refuse to purchase outright at this point. It's also the only brand that I've had to repeatedly sue to get them to honor their warranty.

Are you in the US? I don't have any other Samsung products but SSDs, but that statement is like WTF? Like I have had cx's with Dells with issues and spoke to their SSD support and they helped me no problem.

At least in the US (btw, this is only in regards to SSDs since i deal with them almost daily and have found in my dealings quickest ways to get to them) there's several ways to contact them for SSDs. Phone 1-800-726-7864, they got this weird voice system now that's annoying, but i found a quick way through it. Say "Solid State drive" and when she recognizes it, she asks what your issue is, then I just say representative twice and she gets me over.

I also noticed they got livechat for SSDs now, but its only 9-6pm eastern. One of the agents gave me a direct link once: Link

Lastly there's [email protected] which they usually get back to me within 24 hours or [email protected], usually within the same day, but sometimes 24-48 hours.

I was in the US, in the EU now. Good thing about the EU is that when your stuff breaks down, you take it to the store and the store does the RMAing for you (or they just tell you to grab another one of the same thing).

But in any case, thanks for the information, its perhaps helpful for other people on this forum. I'm gonna stick with IMFT for my semiconductor needs.

Interesting thread to read. Good to see lovers and haters saying the same thing from the different perspectives for the most part.

    Conclusions

    1) no functional reason to load Magician for speed/storage reasons, as the new drives (mine will be 950pro) have direct support in Win10
    2) might be useful if there are problems (diagnostics)
    3) yet some more spyware

I'll be passing for now. Please let me know if I'm missing something.
    Thanks for all remarks.

    The one you missed:

    4) actual performance detriment from running RAPID.

    ;)
