It's a pain trying to get hold of a 960 pro at the moment. Stocks worldwide are crazy low (or being held back), and the few that are on the market are so jacked up in prices it's almost shameful.

SM961 is at a much more reasonable price, around SM951 prices were... I would much rather get that then the 960 pro!

I was comparing the prices of the 960 EVO and SM961, and they're not very far off. I doubt I'd soak up the SLC buffer of the 960 EVO that rapidly, so I am actually still considering the SM961 or the 960 EVO. They are cheaper than the 960 PRO at the same capacity (c.a. 430 GBP v.s. about 520 GBP).

A little off-topic question here: suppose I have non-RAID 2 SSDs, does it matter whether I put only OS and softwares in one and only storage data in the other, or is it better to have some mix in between (e.g. OS in one plus some secondary softwares, priority softwares in the other; data storage some mish-mash of both)?

I would tend to separate along the lines of software on one and bulk data on the other. The latter might then have a chance to sleep thus reducing the system power drain, which would be useful if running on battery.
