Some of you may remember my report of upgrading this machine couple years ago. Well, it's 2016 already, and I serviced it again - second time this year, actually. Here are the latest specs:
12.1" 1280x800
T7200 2GHz
2.5GB RAM
Intel X3100
128GB SSD
DVD-RW
802.11ac + BT 4.0 (AW-CB161H)
4x USB 2.0 (one occupied by microphone)
Windows 10 Pro
SSD was surplus left after upgrading my own machines; other hardware upgrades were dirty cheap.

I would say it deserves one now.
How much battery life does it get and what is a typical usage scenario for you with this system?Starlight5 likes this. -

@tilleroftheearth since it is not mine and I didn't check battery statistics before wiping 8.1, I do not know how much battery lasts, exactly - now that I think of it, should have, to determine battery health; owner uses it for office, browsing, media stuff - mostly on AC power; also uses iPad Air a lot. Guess It's a good idea to add a new battery to SSD if it isn't retired next time it falls into my hands, and see what such an old platform is really capable of.

Impressive: Give or take a few months it will be 9 years old. I once had the Q35 but it was re-homed many years ago because the screen was too small to be my main machine. I would be surprised if the battery has much life after 9 years.
With notebooks this old still running then it's no surprise that demand for new ones has been declining.

Today I replaced the SSHD with 128GB SSD, and added nano-sized USB microphone since the machine lacked one. CrystalDiskMark results are not impressive at all - but given the fact Q35 went in production 10 years ago, I believe there is nothing to be shy of. I also updated first post to reflect the changes.

Ten years old it's probably running SATA 1 speeds, but still quicker than hard drive especially 4k.

My Q35 review mentions an interface speed of 150MB/s (ie SATA 1). However, the interface speed only becomes a significant bottleneck when reading large blocks of data. Much of the benefit of an SSD comes from the near-zero access times which makes the computer more responsive.

Well, ICH7M Sata controller is much slower not only in sequential, but also in 4K, for some reason. This is what the same drive is capable of in modern SATA3 system.
