just hope it would push down the price of SATA 2 drive price a bit. Personally, I would opt for the slower last gen as those are more energy efficient, in general. The extra speed in most case is not that useful.
-
I think this is really good because we get more SATA 3 controllers that isn`t Sandforce. I`m looking forward to see how it compares to Marvell with compressed data and 4Ks etc.
-
If it turns out to be as rock solid as the 470, which I am sure it will be, this will be a great addition to the family.
Do you notice how the big, succesfull and reliable SSD makers do not rush out the latest products. They test them and then retest again to make sure the bugs are found and corrected. -
Yeah agreed. While OCZ and co. rush out the SSDs to the market, and let the customers do the testing for them lol.
Anyhow, yeah Samsung have been rock solid with their 470. I am a bit curious about the PM830 because they haven`t said anything about IOPS and 4Ks yet -
-
The only way for Intel to keep up with that 512 SATA3 model is to either get the 320 series to SATA3 or double the capacity of the 510.
Nice job by Samsung really. -
-Fast
-Reliable
-Cheap
You may choose 1~2 of the above. -
Manufactures and consumer alike deal with this dilemma all the time. Do you want to be the first to the party, or wait until all the bugs have been worked out? If you wait too long, there might not be any product (or customers) left.
PS I always wait? -
Given how the Intel 510 is one of the more reliable drives this generation, I don't see the correlation between speed of release vs reliability either. -
Well the Intel 510 actually release shortly after the Vertex 3, and the M4 was about a month after that. The thing is, both companies were working on SATA 3 drives long before Sandforce-using companies, as Sandforce only got the controller out at the beginning of the year/very late 2010. And rushed them to market of course.
I suppose in this case there was not a huge delay in release, but if you look at when these companies actually started working on SATA 3 drives, you have a better idea. -
You have no idea how long the Intel was in development before it was released? I'm sorry but there is no denying the fact that the more a company holds back the release of a product to further develop and therefore make it more reliable is not better for the consumer. Heck just look at the US Auto companies vs the Japanese. The Japanese test, etc there products up to 5 times more than GM does.
-
When is the consumer version supposed to hit the shelves? Any word if it'll be a 7mm drive?
-
I believe it said they are starting production now, which means we might see it in a month or so??
-
I think Redmars49's question is important.
I believe this (like the Samsung mSata) is OEM only. So it will not be available for consumer sale. -
Samsung Announces High-performance 512GB SSDs with Ultra-fast SATA Revision 3.0 Interface
-
"Samsung's new line up of advanced SSDs will raise the performance bar to the next level for ultra-slim notebooks and tablets..." -
Geez it's tough to get old
I read the entire article and forgot about it had stated all what you stated.
-
Hope to see Les review soon, i have high hopes on this ssd.
-
Yeah me too. Samsung will use better NAND and a controller with 2 ARM cores (wt*!) so I`m a bit intersted how this will turn out. Just 1.5 month to wait
Samsung SATA3 SSD coming soon
