Hi all,
I have 2 m.2 ssds in my clevo laptop and have created a bootable samsung magician usb stick. The software detects the drives ready for secure erase but says both are in a frozen state. It tells me to remove them and the put them back in with the power on!!! i cant do this on a laptop!!! Any ideas.
P.s. I have @Prema BIOS if that helps at all?
Cheers
Jim

Usually just putting the system to 'sleep' for a few minutes and waking it up is all that is needed to 'unfreeze' them.

As in, sleep in windows? Then reboot into bios and it should be OK?

May I ask: What is the reason you want to secure erase them?
Can't you just format them and be done?
It seems like a quick fix to unfreeze them in a notebook isn't easy or even possible. Borrow a desktop system if you can and when you get to the screen where it says they're locked; pull the SATA cable from each, wait a minute and then plug them back in. They should now be unlocked.
Secure erasing an SSD is the most destructive thing you can do to the nand on it. Don't do it if you don't have to. (And when I did it a few times in the past; performance wasn't improved even a little. And it definitely didn't help with the 'used' performance of the drives either. -

If selling is the goal:
Create a USB Win10 installer using Rufus by downloading the ISO here and using it to delete all partitions on your SSD's. Then choose Disk 0 and install Win10 there. Don't worry about the Windows Key Code (skip it) if you have Win10 already installed; once you connect to the 'net it will activate automatically (just be sure you install the same edition of Win10, of course).
When the system is running again and all drivers have been installed (check your notebook manufacturer's website for specific drivers Win10 doesn't find/install automatically), then download and install ccleaner (I always use the 'slim' version).
Use it to Wipe free space from both drives. Once done; you can safely sell your system.
Note that I do not state to enable any OP'ing before you Wipe the drives with ccleaner - afterwards, I would recommend my usual 33% of the actual capacity available for the disk in full.
Good luck.
Edit: Changed 'USB key' in first paragraph to 'Windows Key Code' for better clarity in English.

Thanks for the help. Reference OPing is that done by downloading Samsung Magician?

No, don't download/install that unless there is a new firmware to flash (uninstall again afterwards).
OP'ing is ideally only using a partition that is ~67% (for 33% OP'ing) of the total available capacity of the drive you're OP'ing, before installing the O/S. Using Disk Management and shrinking the capacity used is almost as good - if you don't want to install the O/S, drivers and programs once more.

Already done it and set the op to 33% shall I have 0% op in the program and then delete it?

Lol... Nah, don't worry about it. As long as you did a Wipe on the full drive (free space) and OP'd afterwards it shouldn't make a difference now as you're selling it, correct?

Ha.... Yep still selling it.... Well if that bloke ever gets back to me that is. At least ots already to go boxed up now.
