At least they admit it, but not even the writer reporting the news believes that they can fix it.![]()

Here are a couple of threads I'm reading following this slow read issue.

Jesus. So that FSX and my storage heavy photoscenery seems to take much longer to load than it used is possibly not my imagination?
If this is un-fixable, surely Samsung have an obligation to replace our flawed EVO's, -

No, actually they don't.
I'm sure the fine print will cover their behinds - they will simply say the maintenance is 'regular and required' and we're stuck with what are essentially; expensive paper weights.
See many examples on the 'net of how manufacturers have not lived up to their moral obligations - but yet, they're still in business. -

1. Based on TLC flash memory, once the data stored for a long time, the leakage of the grid voltage would be bad.
2. Read operation have to forced to resort in a very complex error correction algorithm,
ALL is the TLC results in the decrease of speed.
I have my doubts that this issue can be fixed through a firmware update -
Samsung products always have flaws for me.. My Samsung TV's touchless buttons get stuck so the volume stays on 0 sometimes, my S3 was an overheating pile of crap and my battery hardly lasted 1/2 the day (even a new battery didn't fix anything) and my Samsung ultrabooks battery just wore out so quickly.. I guess this is another case of junk Samsung products... Thank god my Sandisk won't have these problems..
-
I think claiming this issue is an example of how "Samsung products always have flaws" is oversimplifying. For SSDs specifically, the 470, 830, & 840 Pro have all had exceptional reliability, and the 850 Pro is likely to continue this trend. The problem has only occurred with TLC drives.
SanDisk's Ultra II is also a TLC drive as well, so I wouldn't be so quick to assume SanDisk will escape TLC problems either.tilleroftheearth and Ferris23 like this. -
I've read that the firmware fix for this will be available Oct. 15th.

I've seen Samsung mention that unofficially (blog?), but no fix has been announced yet.

Again, not an official announcement from Samsung, but it seems Anandtech is also one of their news outlets now.

I returned my 840 EVO 1TB today and got a Crucial M550 instead. It cost me a little more money, but I think it's worth it to get MLC vs. TLC and not have to wait for a potential fix.

very wise choice. TLC sucks so bad. -
I think my favourite part of this is that it took whoever came up with all the "SSD is satan" coverage a while back well over two years to figure out how an actual ssd works. And I mean, lots of tech-sites have recommended the Samsung 840 drives without remarking on the nand block density. Which was known a long time ago.

Well, Idk as I have the Extreme II which is better then any Samdung.. I'm happy for the owners receiving a fix but this is just another example of Samsung screwing up for me..

not better than the 850 PRO but I agree, the Sandisk Extreme II and Sand Disk Extreme PRO shine in real world benchmarks and give consistent performance. Now comparing them to the crappy EVOs yes they smoke them but the 850 PRO is a different matter. -
While not disagreeing it has much better consistency, I can tell you from firsthand experience both the 840 Pro and 840 Evo felt snappier than the Extreme II.Ferris23 likes this.

I just ran HDTach, and I had to laugh (the bad kind) when I saw this:
So apparently my 10 month old 840 Evo 500GB is slower than an HDD. Thank god I use it as a storage drive. gg Sammy is all I gotta say
On the bright side at least the 840 Pro is still holding strong after almost a year:

The Extreme II is nice and cheap but the Firmware support from Sandisk can never, ever match Samsung. They've pretty much abandoned the Extreme II drives now.Ferris23 likes this.

Maybe because there is nothing to fix?

True that! Its working top notch here with the stock firmware
