IMFT has their 256Gb 32-layer NAND, and now Sanshiba has 256Gb 48-layer NAND. I'm betting Samsung will announce a 256Gb 3rd-gen VNAND soon.
With all the major players going to at least 256Gb per die, we're looking at potentially 512GB of NAND in a single package. Which will mean single sided m.2 drives with 1TB capacity, or double sided m.2 and mSata with 2TB capacity. Maybe even 2.5" drives with 4TB capacity. IMFT's 384Gb TLC dies can lead to even higher capacities.
With NVMe controllers also going mainstream, next year is certainly shaping up to be interesting for consumer SSDs.

And yep, Samsung just announced 256 Gb VNAND.
Looks like SSDs next year will be taking a nice jump in capacity.tilleroftheearth and alexhawker like this. -
I'm preparing for my wallet to be massively raped... I expect the prices for 2/3TB to be insane..

Ok, maybe SSDs will be taking a massive jump in capacity:

That's gotta be using 512 dies, probably arranged in 32 packages. -
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
And a massive jump in $$$$ too.
When can I get that capacity and performance in my notebooks?Starlight5 likes this.
