If they weren't so viciously backordered (HP got 9000 orders when they expected 5000), I'd say go for the HP Slate 500 over an IPad. It's currently on a 6 week backorder.

You have destroyed a perfectly good thread. Take your Ipad and cellphone discussion to off topic please

Yeah, I'd really like to know what to expect as far as DVI Dual Link support/ existing product line ups upgraded to Sandy Bridge in time for my first day of classes as I'd like something I could hook into a 2560x1440 27 inch screen with Sandy Bridge.

M15x and M17x will drive Displayport 2560x1440, if you happen to mean the U2711.

Do you think we'll see an Alienware refresh early/late january though?

Unlikely, the usual manufactures with zero-day products are Dell, HP and Asus. Maybe even Acer...they really stepped it up after the Timeline launch.

Of course, Alienware is now part of Dell, so there's a possibility... but I don't think it's likely.

I'm not sure of the connection you're alluding to here. But true they are owned by Dell, but they operate independently.

There is an R3 rumoured to be "coming soon". The magic question on the table is whether that is a SB based notebook and coming in Jan (delivered) or if it is current I7 based with just a GPU upgrade and Widi.

    Not sure.
