Does anyone know why there is such a slow uptake of Sandy Bridge laptops in the UK. When Sandy Bridge was launched I was expecting the older core processors (i3,i5,i7) to be phased out fairly quickly and the manufacturers to be refitting their existing models with the new processors.

Instead the situation is that there's only a handful of manufacturers offering the chips and a handful of models that feature Sandy Bridge.

I held off buying a laptop in Feb/Mar, thinking that new Sandy Bridge laptops would be offered from May onwards. Instead its taking ages and I'm wondering whether to just go and buy an older i3 laptop.

Any ideas on when to expect Sandy Bridge to be fully offered in the UK?

    Thanks.

Like yourself, after waiting so long for much talked about Timeline X4830, I went and bought this Sandybridge laptop from another online retailer.
This is an excellent laptop, in particular the great sound system and the IntelHD3000 graphics.
My only gripe about this laptop is that it came with Elantech touchpad which is not as good as Synaptics but I'm hoping that I get used to it.

I can't answer your question, but have you considered using a USA => UK forwarding company and ordering from the American site? The transatlantic shipping costs might be offset by the lower prices in the States, you'd just need to make sure the OEM you're ordering from has a good international warranty.

The customs charge you have to pay on top pushes it over though.
