$8,400! How much did you get yours for, and was it new or used?
Edit: I think this is the same monitor under a different brand.

also finest dot pitch = smallest possible text. I know we can increase font size etc but I'd rather run all native.............

The problem with the Viewsonic is it doesn't support the bandwidth required to drive it at anything over 21Hz screen refresh. The DG05 T221 can be driven at 50Hz using an external DUAL-DVI mux.
I don't have to change the dpi, I mostly use Linux and specifically set the system fonts a couple of sizes larger, however I can have lots and lots and lots of apps and windows open on the desktop at the same time so it's great for working quickly across a number of different applications.
It's also untouchable as a monitoring tool it you want to watch lots of system/network activity at the same time.
I have run Windows MS Flight Sim at 3840 x 2400 using high res land graphics and aircraft detail and that really does blow you away, I think I've got a screengrab somewhere, I'll see if I can find it. -

For monitoring alone, 21hz would actually work just fine (I still can't justify spending that much on a monitor though. Getting a new laptop or upgrading my current makes much more sense for me, since not enough time is spent in one place).
I hope you can find the picture; that sounds awesome.
