Does anyone have any ideas on how much future notebooks (with Santa Rosa) are going to cost? A lot of people are avoiding getting a notebook now, and are waiting to see what companies are going to be coming out with Santa Rosa in the future. Do you think they will be under $1500, or is that too much to hope?
-
The certainly will be laptops that cost less than $1500 (Dv6500 and Dv2000 with integrated GPUs are already available).
-
i have a feeling that they will be similarly priced as what is out now....what will happen is last gen technology prices will go down.

Two mods post, and don't even notice this is in the wrong forum.
Bad mods! Bad!

erk! Sorry.. What forum should this be in?? I've done some reading on Santa Rosa, and I still don't really know what it is, other than it makes the computer's better. I thought Asus was pretty much the only computer with it right now..?

its just a platform and thats its name. when they make significant changes in the platform they give them codenames, same goes for new versions of CPUs.
new socket type, jump in fsb from 667 to 800mhz, better power management
all notebook makers have announced their santa rosa laptops and are available either now or soon. -
Santa Rosa = Chipset, faster FSB, NAND flash chip (optional), and Intel's WiFi card. -

for a college student such as myself, would you think it's a good idea to buy a Santa Rosa notebook or buy last gen technology and reap the savings? how much of an improvement does the Santa Rosa really make?
-
I would say that it depends on how long you want your notebook to last.
If you want future-proofing, then get the best notebook within your price range. If cost is more important, then you probably aren't going to be using your notebook for a long period of time, in which case get the best deal avaliable.
Santa Rosa seems to have significant battery savings.
One review of a HP dv2500t put battery life extension at about 30 minutes extra, compared to a dv2000t with the same battery.
