If I buy a notebook with a 320 GB SATA Drive, can I buy a SSD myself and upgrade at a later date, should I wish to do so ?

    Regards,

Assuming that the SSD plugs into a SATA drive port, which they should, then yes.

You can install any 9.5mm thick SATA SSD in your system, given your system uses SATA harddrives

Should be possible considering those are relatively new models.

Both systems use 9.5mm thick harddrives, and both can accept and use SATA SSD Drives.
I think the best at the moment are the Supertalent drives and the Mtron ones.

Yes you can, you should be able to upgrade the optical drive without any problem. The blu-ray drive will be expensive, so make sure its worth it to you before buying.
When selecting an optical drive, you need to verify the interface, the thickness of the drive and the bezel of the drive to ensure that it will be recognized by your system, and that it will fit.
