    Hi everybody,

Can anybody tell which HD will be better/faster (both disks run at 7.200 rpm and are made by hitachi)

It'd be easier to give you an answer if you can give more specs. IE, whats the hard drive capacity? Are they the same generation? etc.

Oh and fyi, Sata 1 vs sata 2 is just the maximum possible throughput via the connection (SATA1 1.5 Gbit/s vs SATA2 3.0 Gbit/s). Even sata 1 for a single drive hookup is plenty enough since notebook hard drives can't saturate that yet. Assuming you account for overhead, actual maximum transfer on Sata1 is about 150MB/s.

    edit:
Take a look at this thread I started.
Hitachi 7k100 vs 7k200, with a few other drives too

The 7k100 is 8MB cache while the 7k200 is 16MB cache, both Sata1. Also the 7k200 has a denser platter which helps increase performance.

I'm customizing a MSI 1719 and I have to choose a HD the options are:
    200gb Hitachi SATA 7.200 rpm 16mb cache
200gb Hitachi SATA II 7,200 rpm 8mb cache

Sadly teh site doesn't give more detailes on the model or anything else for the drives.... my question is wath maters the most having SATA II or 16mb cache??? what is better???

SATA and SATA II are the same speed drives.

Because they only refect the speed change in the interface aka the bandwidth between the drive and the system.. We are not even close to topping off the bandwidth avalible in SATA I yet.. Even in raid 0 configurations.

Id get SATA II because besides the new interface tho, there have been a few small improvements to the technology of the drives, and I have read from multiple sources (one just the other day infact) that the cache size has very very little effect in driver performance. So dont let that be somthing that makes you side with one drive or another.

Personally I'd go with the 200GB Hitachi 7200rpm with 16MB cache.

One thing though, I never knew Hitachi made 200GB 7200RPM drives with 8MB cache. I know they make sata1 and sata2 versions but both should come with 16MB cache. Got the information I know from reading Hitachi's spec sheets in regards to their 7k200 series.
