Odd one I can't figure out.

DVDRW stopped reading discs. It knew they were there, just couldn't read them. I removed all burning software, and done all the registry fixes I know (upper/lower filters, removing enum key and redetecting the drive), it always installed it correctly, but no change.

So I figured the drive was dead.

So I got a new one, 2 of them in fact. Neither one of these drives is detected by the latest BIOS from Toshiba for this laptop.

Old drive is a UJ-841 (Matsu****a?) drive. The 2 new ones are Sony brand drives. Old drive is detected just fine by the BIOS, and then Windows. Neither new drive is detected by the BIOS, and thus, Windows knows nothing.

I've seen this behavior with internal Wifi cards, where specific cards are locked out from the BIOS. I don't think CDROMS would be.

    Anyone have any ideas?
