I’m looking to upgrade the T3400 processor in my lappy to something that supports Hardware Virtualisation and is generally a bit beefier. Was wondering if anyone had any recommendations/has done this before?

The T7400 won't work. His machine has a GL40 chipset... it's not even the same socket.

That being said, since you have a GL40, your upgrade options are limited. Much like the GL960 that preceded it, the GL40 only officially supports silly things like Celerons and Pentiums... though people have found it possible to use C2D in some cases:

That being said, your best bets are probably processors that other people have run with the GL40, but even those might not work depending on Toshiba's implementation of the chipset and BIOS and so on.

Depending on what chipset u have , GL960 or GL40, different processors might work...

if u have GL960 , T7400 might be ur best option
for GL40 , T9300 might be ur best option...

Could u download CPU-Z and give a screenshot of what chipset u have?

your in luck if u got GL40... T9300 will be the best processor for price and performance... and its almost as good as my T9400 :)

    P.S : T9300 supports VT...

T9300 will be one of the best processors for the price and performance... if it works. And that's a fairly big if, if you ask me...
