When I gently flex my the lid of my screen the screen becomes green. Is this a problem? Laptop is Acer 1830T.

Ya i would think you have a problem, could be a loose ribbon, molecules coliding, but i would reframe from doing that, kinda neet though.
-
Loose ribbon is what I thought...
Don't want to send it back to Acer though, have hear bad things about their service.
Any more opinions on this? Does it need to be fixed? -
Yeah...I would get something done about it. It could possibly escalate into a worse problem later on.
As the old adage goes, an ounce worth of prevention is a pound worth of cure. -
This may be perfectly normal. Many LCDs do something like that when mechanically stressed. It all depends on the make and model of LCD, as well as the way it's mounted in the lid. See if you can check out a similar laptop in a store, to check if it behaves similarly. I would tend not to worry about it if it's fine under normal use.
-
Well, my first inclination would be to tell you to get it repaired by Acer.
But since you don't seem to favor that option, I'd say... stop flexing your screen
-
Can you go down to a local computer store that has your laptop or similar model and see if it does the same thing.
If it does my guess would be that its normal. I do know displays will distort when flexed, so it may be your lid is not stiff enough to keep that from happening. -
THIS IS NOT GOOD! Had the same problem with my Dv5t... its a loose or even broken screen cable.. have it repaired..
-
well my first thought was that really is no good. Does it happen when moving the lid around without stressing it?
-
"doc, it hurts when I do this...."
"so stop doing it....."
If your machine is out of warranty, you might want to open it up to see if you have a loose or worn cable. Otherwise, you can take your chances with the repair center or live with it. -

I dont think the whole "escalation" thing really applies. Heres why:
-If it escalates and its the connector or something else on the actual LCD, then it will just have to be replaced entirely.
-If its the cable, then the LCD is 100% fine, and a new cable will fix permanently.
so unless the cable is not only being disconnected but actually getting a short... then its not going to damage anything other the same type of thing thats already on its way out. -
No, only when I gently flex it.
I've asked other 1830T owners, they don't have this.
I'm not sure I'm fully getting your answer. Are you saying no need to escalate? -

escalation as in "if you dont get that repaired now it will become much much worse" -
it became slightly worse so I'm sending it back to Acer now.
Acer says not to send any accesoires. Should I send back the AC adapter and battery though? -
Don't send those back if they work.
-
Thanks.
Well sofar so good. I contacted Acer this morning and someone from UPS picked it up today. Hope to get it back soon. -
I told Acer about the problem on tuesday. UPS came and picked it up the same day. They got the laptop in Germany on wednesday, replaced the entire screen and send it back to me on thursday. I got my laptop back today. Props to Acer's repair centre in Germany.
Nice bonus: I seem to have gotten a better 11.6" panel. Colors look better and contrast higher.
Screen becomes green when flexing it. Something to be worried about?
