I've had my Toshiba M-55 for about a year and it seems like the screen is getting dimmer. I've tried to increase the brightness by using the Fn+F7 key, but to no avail. Any suggestions? :(

you might have a loose connection between the lcd and the inverter (backlight componant)

That doesn't sound good. I'm sure it's not something I could fix so I'll just have to live with it. Thanks.

If your standard warranty hasn't expired yet, now would be the time to send it on for repair.

Your LCD inverter itself, I believe is to blame.

The inverter is responsible for providing the current to the LCD backlight, thus if the current isn't proper the screen will dim or eventually turn black.

This is a common problem with many many notebooks, and if it is still under warrenty I would send it in, if not wait till it dies and replace it yourself, they are usually no more than $40 on Ebay.

Thanks guys for all the replies. It might not even be that. It could be my eyesight going bad for all I know. But if it turns out to be the LCD inverter, I'll be back for help on replacing it.

Yes, it really sounds like the inverter is to blame.
Luckily, the inverter is a pretty cheap part in a laptop to buy.

It's also really easy to replace. There's a couple screws you have to undo around the lcd frame, then you pop off the plastic, one more screw for the inverter, and 2 connectors. it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes, tops.
