    Hi there,

Can anyone tell me what’s wrong with my laptop if I tell you that you the brightness’s buttons on the keyboard cease working, and that the screen is dark at certain positions (angles) and it becomes brither when the screen is flipped a little bit more.

    Thanks.

That could just be the viewing angles of the display, unless it is more severe than that.

Could we have some details about the laptop? How old, etc.

    Thanks for repling

My laptop is a compaq evo1015 and its about three years old. This problem started about two months ago.

    I'm sure it's not that.

Forget to say that sometimes in the same position the image or diplay move from dark to bright and vis versa until the screen is moved either forward or backward a bit.

    Thanks.

naton, every LCD screen I've own has viewing characteristics as you described to more or less of a degree. Without anyone being able to "see" the screen makes this difficult.

Your keyboard brightness buttons no longer work? You may have a corrupted HP screen driver. HP has an excellent user forum that you can search for like problems if you’re out of warrantee.

regarding the buttons, I don't think that its a drivers problem as I freshly reinstalled windows and the drivers and the buttons are still not working.

regarding the display problem can the be due to a loose connectors? or can this be due to a backlight problem? or ma be inverters

    Thanks.

I think your buttons have a custom HP driver to check them. You could have some dead keys, via keyboard connector or other. Is your screen stuck dark or bright? If your backlight is dead you would have a very dark screen, if you have a loose connector, thumping the base of the screen, with finger, with make the brightness change as my old Arima.

    Hi Hydra,

I'm not sure what you mean by the driver for the buttons? The buttons use to work even when no HP/Compaq drivers are yet installed.

You'll find here the whole list of drivers for my laptop. Can you see any one related to the screen control buttons?

Dead buttons? not realy convinced as this problem started just few days after the problem of the screen dispaly started.

You mean touching the buttom of the screen or the frame surrounding the screen? and can this be fixed?

I notice when I touch the boutom of the frame surrounding the screen the screen pass from dark to bright.

    Thanks.

Sorry, it's been a while and I never had those exact button problems to learn and trouble shoot. There are HP guys that hang on the official HP/Compaq forum that may have an answer for you.

As for the screen brightness fluctuation, yes, there is a connector from the motherboard to the screen backlight inverter that has given me problems with my old Gateway; oddly my old ZE4400 has had no problem. See if you can find your manual on the HP forum to pull your button bezel to get at connectors, it's not hard. You may find your button problem as well as there is also a keyboard connector in this area. I would also Google your button problem to find if other has had like problems. Yes, the connector can be cleaned of oxide/other that should take care of your flicker problem, you might have to "snug" the connector fingers for a tighter fit.

I could not get your link to work (websense) so let me dig up my old HP driver files.

    Hi Hydra,

Thanks for the manual link, though I already downloaded it and printed it few months ago when I cleaned the fan and the heatsink and applied some artic silver 5 to the CPU.

I found out last night that I've another button not woring... the windows button or is it window button.

I'll open the laptop again maybe tonight and I'll clean the connectors and see what is going to happen.

    Thanks again.
