I was hoping to find a 120hz or 144hz option, but I can't find one that has a combination of the same size and same 30pin edp. Is it possible to get and use a 40pin edp cable to use a different screen, or would that likely not work? Or is there some other screen that would work that I'm not seeing?

Edit, I can get this uhd 40pin cable for the laptop model, so I think it might work?

Yes, you need the 40 pin eDP cable because it has more lanes, to support either higher resolutions(like 4K/UHD) or higher refresh rate, that is what you want to achieve.
Lots of 40 pins FHD displays with 120 and 144Hz refresh rate, and even 200/240/300Hz displays are available.

Right, I saw some that would fit the dimensions but we're 40 pin. So I'll just order the cable and the screen I settle on. Wish me luck!
    Thanks.

So now I'm kind of looking at this model the b156han08.0. can anyone suggest anything better than that? Looks like this one could be had for around $80 (US) right now.

    EDIT:

I found these two models that should also work. They have much higher contrast 1200:1 vs 800:1 and better viewing angles with about the same color reproduction. Everything else is pretty much the same I think.

    EDIT:
Also found this one. It's a bit pricey at 120 from china, but 1300:1, lower response times and 500nits.
