Higher end laptop's like Alienware, Origin PC, Eurcom, Sager, Clevo, etc that have relatively easy to replace parts, like GPU's.; Can you upgrade the screen aftermarket?
For instance, an Alienware M17xR4 that came with an I7, 16 or 32gb of ram and an ATI or Nvidia card is still a pretty fast machine even now.
Say you go ahead and upgrade the GPU to a current model Nivida or the next gen ATI (AMD) when it comes out later this year; Is it possible to take the screen apart and replace it with a 4k or 5k panel?
(I had to take the screen off the laptop anyway to get access to the mSATA port.)
So to take the screen off, take it apart and replace the panel? is it possible or worth it? I would assume if you had a cracked panel, you could take it apart anyway right? why not upgrade it?

Probability is there is only a 2 channel LVDS supported by the motherboard and plugin GPU this then would be your limiting factor for resolution.

R4 uses LVDS 60Hz 1080p screens but there is also a eDP port on mobo for the 120Hz TN screen.. Now the question is can you get a screen which uses the same edp config and that is highyl unlikely.. Also there won't be any 4K/5k 17.3" pannels anytime soon..

If your willing to pay for it I'm sure that you could replace the whole assembly if AW ever makes one for the 17.
