Hey guys,
I have searched and have done some reading on here. I have a Gateway 7811FX, I would like to upgrade my second drive in the machine and my primary drive to 500 gig drives.
Right now I have a 7200 RPM 200 gig Seagate Momentus and a 320 gig 5400 RPM momentus drive.
I am just worried about moving from the 7200 RPM primary drive to a 5400 rpm secondary drive.
Are the benchmarks from either of these 500 gig drives close to my current 7200 RPM 200 gig momentus? Is there a preference between the Western Digital and the Seagate 500 gig drives?

The benchmarks of the 500gb 5400rpm drive will blow away your 200gb 7200rpm drive, so you shouldnt worry about that. Your momentus 200gb drive can do about 48mb/sec, whereas a 500gb 5400 can do 65mb/sec. However the seektimes of teh 7200rpm drive will be different. The Seagate 500gb 5400rpm drive has a high seek time around 19.5ms, while the Western DIgital has a more comparable seek time to a 7200rpm drive.
Go for the WD 500gb 5400rpm drive. it will give you a nice performance upgrade, and the drive is pretty cheap.
