I have had a Seagate PATA 160GB 5400.3 ST9160821A for half a year now. I have been using it as the main HDD in my laptop for 2.5 months.
The issue: sometimes, it makes clicking noises. This happens quite rarely (say two or three times a day) and I cannot connect it to any specific event (like notebook boot etc.) The HDD checks out OK in SeaTools and chkdsk (including scanning for bad sectors). I have had zero trouble with it.
It is not the seek noise because that one can barely be heard (With my old Hitachi I could clearly hear when it was working, but with the Seagate I can't, I have to check the IDE led).
I do not know if this was happening ever since the HDD was new because I didn't care much about how it sounded when it was in the enclosure, but it has become important now that it's my main HDD. But it is happening for these 2.5 months.
Should I worry about it? Since it seems to run just fine for 6 months now, and Sea Tools checks out.
PS1: I do backups regularly.
PS2: I know there are other threads on similar topics but people usually hear the clicking noises much more often, and HDDs usually fail within days or weeks of the instant clicking has started.
Thanks.

Bump?
Or is my guess as good as anyone's?
