In the past couple of weeks the 7200.2 in my T60 has started to emit what could best be described as Morse code. Bzz zzzz Bzzzzz zz z zzzzzz z etc. So far nothing on the SMART logs or odd errors on the computer, but it will probably be only a matter of time. So I guess time to upgrade right?
What are my best options right now? So far I have been thinking about the Scorpio Black after seeing some results from that here in the office. Does any drive have a huge lead compared to the others, or one have a noticeable higher failure rate than the rest? I figure anything will be better than what I current have. My 7200.2 will be warrantied, but it will be shifted to a external storage solution.

7K320 and WD3200BEKT are both good choices. Usually the Hitachi is a bit cheaper. They are roughly the same in terms of performance, with the WD holding a slight edge over the hitachi.
Have you ever tried a SATA 300 drive in your laptop?
If you have one lying around I recommend you trying it first. If the system does not read SATA 300 drives than you will need to buy a SATA 300 drive and either change a jumper for SATA 150 operation, or use Hitachi Tool or WD Lifeguard to change the firmware to force the drive into SATA 150 mode.
I had to use Hitachi Tool for the replacement drives for my D900K. Luckily my E1505 could read SATA 300 drives, so I could use Hitachi tool in my dell to change the speed of the drive to SATA 150 to work in my D900K

My 7200.2 is currently running in SATA II/300 so that is no problem.
