just thought i'd let everyone know how much i love my new external HDD. first of all, its very small and light..so its extremely portable. secondly, IMO it looks great. dark body with the orange light looks great. and of course, the performance for a USB 2.0 device, its very fast. its supposed to be one of the fastest drives around at the moment. with a few other apps running which kinda slowed down the performance (but i felt having a few apps running shows u how it performs in a real-life situation), it did pretty fast.

i transferred 20.4GB of movies onto the HDD from my computer in just over 16min, at a rate of around (well, i calculated exactly) 21,1MB/sec. i know its well below the seagate-claimed rate of over 30MB/sec, but i found it fine.

i copied the same batch of movies from the freeagent to another computer and it did it just abit faster, in about 15min at a rate of around 22,8MB/sec.

the seagate-provided freeagent tools makes backing up super easy. i wasnt one to backup my files before this, but now..i just select the folders i want backed up, and it syncs those folders every time i connect, automatically.

lastly, the included Ceedo desktop environment software is great. i admit, i didnt think i'd use this at all. reading the reviews on the software, i felt it might be a bit confusing and a bit hard to set up. but it was a breeze. sure, the apps available on ceedo are limited, but hey...there's a web browser...a choice of IM clients (no MSN or google etc, but pidgin works fine), and other media readers/pdf readers/open office etc. i believe it is able to run the MS Office installed on the host PC.

all in all, its a feature packed drive thats very portable, and performs great. i like my hardware to look good too, and this looks great. money well spent!
