I bought the silver version from Newegg along with the eSATA adapter a couple of weeks ago. The finish is matte and not a fingerprint magne which was a nice surprise. The other colors appear to be gloss. The eSATA adapter came in gloss black. Maybe they will offer them in matching colors eventually if they don't already. I haven't shopped around.![]()
The USB2 cable is detachable from the adapter which is handy. Cables fit very snugly. A previous Seagate I had - the old 160GB FreeAgent would often lose connection if you moved the drive. No such problem with this drive.
Some of you may be wondering if it works off the combo port such as the one on my Envy 14. YES ! I was a little concerned as I didn't find any specific info on line pertaining to that but it was one of the first things I checked when my new laptop arrived. Only one cable to mess with !
Some comparisons vs a Kingston Class 6 MicroSDHD in a USB2 reader, The popular Patriot Xporter 8GB flash drive
I did a file copy test with a 1.51GB folder. The files sizes ranged from 1.5MB to 15mb. Things would vary with typical small documents or program installation I imagine.

SDHC 2m 22s
Xporter 2m59s
GoFlex USB2 1m37s
GoFlex eSATA 29s

SDHC 1m44s
Xporter 1m01s
GoFlex USB2 1m02s
GoFlex eSATA 29s
The 5400rpm spindle speed may hamper the eSATA a little but it shows a respectable ATTO score of 61,xxx and 75,xxx. Better than a 160GB Seagate 7200rpm desktop drive. A slightly dated one mind you.
I apologize for the lack of data. If anyone wants more info and I have the means to give I would be happy to check it out.
Thanks!

Nice review! I'm getting the PRO 750gb 720rpm w/eSata power to go with my E14 when it arrives: Amazon.com: Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro 750 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive

If I were doing alot of backups with large files I would recommend getting the pro version which houses a 7200rpm drive. For my uses the 5400rpm will do fine. I did expect it to be a little faster on transfers.
