    Hi there

I've got an Asus U6sg and I've had two HDD failures in less than 5 months now.
Both drives that failed where Seagate Momentus 5400.4 250gb SATA.
Anybody getting similar (extremely) poor reliability with those drives too ???

I do not own those drives, but I have had similar problems with seagates 500gb 7200rpm desktop drives. I had to rma it 6 times before getting one which worked for over a month, and now 3 months after getting it, it is starting to die. Seagate has a lot of good drives, but their are some bad ones. It looks like you were shipped two bad drives, most likely from the same batch at seagate.
I would send the drive back to the manufacturer and ask to get a hitachi drive instead, since most people do not have problems with hitachi.

6 RMAs before getting a drive that works is crazy.
Obviously some people will have experiences starting like "I never had a problem with *blip*" but I can't believe how hard drive manufacturers can get away with such a low quality. Maybe the price war is to blame for all of this, I don't know.
Thanks for letting me know that Hitachi drives seem pretty reliable.
I will have a look at those as well as the WD ones (not much choice these days eh!)

Vote for Hitachi also. Seagate is a good brand, but if they`ll send you another from the same batch, it won`t make a differece.
