Hi Everyone,
I have a Sony VGN-FW11E HDD.
I need to upgrade as i am using nearly the whole 250GB plus i know i could get better performance hard drive than the one i got which is a Samsung HM251JI.
Now i am not sure which would be best on performance from the two i have stated in the title.
The Seagate is 7200RPM and the WD is only 5200RPM. As i dont use it on the go power consumption is not a concern. I just want the best performance for my money. The Seagate is only around £20 more. I Know the Seagate is Faster RPM but not sure if the WD would be faster.
So could anyone tell me which would be the best to go for?
Thank you
CG

To clarify : ST9500325ASG (in your title) is actually a Momentus 5400.6 (5400RPM) 500GB. Model number of 7200RPM version AKA Segate Momentus 7200.4 is ST9500420AS.
Usually 7200RPM version is faster, but I think you already know that. I can't help you with the performance details, I posted here to clarify the model numbers. -

Most recently, they've tried to recoup the market share they lost by offering drives at lower than average cost, but a lemon is still a lemon even if it's packaged to look like a strawberry.
Seagate was and still remains the industry's top quality drive supplier since the days when I installed them on HP systems for the military 20 years ago. I also believe that having military contracts is also why they got to the top of the industry and have stayed their for a long time. They make smart business decisions (like buying Maxtor) and their manufacturing QA has not wavered in the least; where WD has had problems, Seagate continues to excel. They do not rush crap to market like WD and others just to get it on the market and make a buck, and as a result they now they have a loyal customer base and the industry as a whole knows that their products are superior to WD's.
Bottom line - WD's might be cheaper, but you'll be replacing them sooner than you would if you got a Seagate or Maxtor. -
????
Sounds like severe seagate fanboyism.
Have you read any harddrive news as of late?
Seagate has dropped quality control quite a bit. Their 7200.10 and 7200.11 drives as well as many of their laptop drives are dying very soon.
The only difference between the drives is the PCB which controls them. Some manufacturers do a good job, others do not.
This is why some drives work great while some are just bad.
