Hi,
I just upgraded my 2011 Macbook pro (intel i5)'s hard drive to a seagate momentus xt 500gb. I'm now installing OS X lion but I noticed that a high pitched noise would come out, usually during writing. Everything else seemed to be ok. No other weird noises are heard. The noise sounds like metal to metal screeching (something like when ur car's break pads are worn out).
Is this normal? Should I return it?
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

I would return it as I have no sounds coming from mine.

I hear a lot of mac users have problems with this drive. I don't think it's related to sounds though.

Not so impressed with the hybrid drives I worked with. I use a ssd for boot and 7200rpm drive for storage. Simple solutions for simple problems. 5400rpm drive for storage isn't bad either.

high pitch weeeeee or clicky dededede?
probably do a chkdsk and use crystaldiskinfo for SMART. -
Its more of a weeeeeeeee. I'll see if I can return it tomorrow. -
I think the weeeeeeeeeeeee noise is pretty normal. My unit does it as well. Hardly noticeable to me.
