I have one of the original 500GB Momentus XT drives which I purchased maybe 1.5 - 2 years ago. Seems to have failed me for the second time, completely out of the blue without any warning signs. Basically getting a "No Operating System" or similar error (can't recall offhand) on bootup. So I tried deleting the partition that I had loaded Win 7 OS on, and then tried to reload the OS on the drive again and have to do so via USB as the Acer 3810T has no ODD.
Weird thing is I get to the "Copying Files" step, and it just sits at 0% forever. Just won't copy files over at all, so I'm assuming the partition is done.
But I also can't seem to get Seatools to run on the drive at all (keep trying to make a bootable USB key with Seatools but it starts to boot, says "FreeDos" and then just hangs forever and never loads the software).
Is there another program I can use to check the boot sector or whatever it is called on the drive itself?
Thanks!

You could connect it up to another working computer as a slave and do a surface test.

I'm only using laptops so don't have slave drive capability (at least, I think you can only setup a slave drive in a computer that can accept 2 drives?).
In any event, managed to get SeaTools for Dos loaded up on a CD and used an external CD drive to boot up.
The Momentus XT is packaged up and going back to Seagate, once again ...
