I have to help replace an old hard drive that went kaputty in a friend's laptop; His old hard drive was the one that came with the Acer Ferrari 3400 line (Hatachi Travelstar; 80gb 4200 rpm (It's that old), ATA-5) and as for choices, was thinking of one of these two beautiful HDDs (with Newegg links):

    1.) Western Digital Scorpio WD1200BEVE 120GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive - OEM

    2.) Seagate Momentus 5400.3 ST9120822A 120GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive - OEM

The problem is they're both nice drives, both 120gb (Ferrari laptops seem to have a 131 gb limit for some reason, so I'm going to get max space under 131), both 5400 rpm (don't need 7200), and caches are same, so it's almost just a matter of choice from here.

Please give me your best opinions, and hopefully I'll be able to get a better idea of which one I should choose. :D

You could also partition the harddrive on another laptop, in which case the 131GB limit is no problem, as far as I know.

For $49 you can pick up a 160GB Samsung HM160HC that has 160GB on one platter. It's faster than the drives you mentioned.

If you really want to go for those 120GB drives, get the one with the best warranty. $62 seems expensive though. You can get the Seagate 120GB for $48 at Zipzoomfly.

Good Point =) I guess I could partition, I'll look into it. But for now, let's just stick with these drives.
