Hey guys, I have a chance to purchase a 160GB 2.5" Seagate momentus 7200.2 for a little over $100. It is new in the wrapper, but since the guy isn't a "certified" seller of seagate it may void the warranty (they usually ship with a 5 year warranty).
What do you think, is that a good enough deal to chance the warranty not working out...my thinking is that if they offer a 5-year warranty, they are pretty dang confident they won't have problems with their drives much at all (only about 2-3% during the first 5 years). But I'm no professional.
The drive has received excellent reviews, and is supposed to be favorable on quietness and battery life.
Also, how do I make sure it's compatible with my Vostro 1500?

I would not worry about it. The drive serial number and production date (both prited on the drive) should be all that seagate would need for warranty work.

you can actually check the warranty info per device on the seagate website. all you need is the serial i believe.
