I've been considering an upgrade to a 7200rpm HDD. I see that at Newegg, teh Seagate is significantly higher priced (~$20) than the Hitachi. Why is it so? Is it because that the Seagate has a 5-year warranty, and that the Hitachi only has 3?
Which one would you pick and why?
P.S.:I didn't search the forums before posting, so this might have already been asked. If so, the mods can delete this thread![]()

HEEELP!
Edit #2: Comparison Linky
-
Amol, I would go for the Seagate because of their 5 year warranty, and from experiences, Hitachi HDs are (slightly) noisier.
You probably know this already, but I believe there is a guide on notebook hard drives, on this website. -
Hitachi performs better (in terms of both access time and transfer rate) than Seagate but is noisier.

This has been discussed over and over again. Try a search.
The general consensus is that the Seagate is a bit quieter and runs a bit cooler, while the Hitachi is a bit faster and a bit cheaper. That being said, the two drives only differ in benchmarking performance. In real-world performance, they are basically the same. -
I'd go with either one.....though due to warranty I'd be temped to get the Seagate
Seagate or Hitachi?
