    Interestingly, my Seagates 7200.1 and 7200.2 where whisper quiet. My 7200.4 is quiet as well in XP, but a lawnmower in Vista.

    After disabling all the HD thrashing components of Vista, my 7200.4 is whisper quiet and never clicks. It does sometimes make funny bzzzt beeep noises but seems pretty standard :p

    I use a program called QuietHDD, has a "disable APM" feature...is yours a free-fall sensor model? I hear that's the issue, but as long as I can shut it up while it's on my desk, it's NBD.

    Edit: Google it, it's freeware.
