    Hello folks,

It's probably a dumb question, but I saw that my laptop has only one 2.0 usb port on what it seems a 2-port board. Is there any way to enable the second port, so the 2 ports will share the bandwith? I have 2 dongles connected so speed is not really a deal, but it would be pretty practical to have the 3.0 ports free for other stuff.
I tried simply soldering a second usb port on the board but nothing happended.

Can you hold it up to the light and confirm the traces are there to connect the second port? Or probe for connectivity with a multimeter?

There are a few unsoldered pads on the board including one for a diode and another 6 pin section for some other component (maybe a transistor?).
It also looks like the ribbon cable connector section has six extra pads that are empty. Those are probably used for the extra port. Of course that also means that a bigger connector is needed as well as a bigger ribbon cable. Then that ribbon cable still needs to connect to the motherboard which needs to have a matching connector (12 pins).

Your laptop was probably offered with an extra port but that may have required a different motherboard.

    What laptop is this for?

EDIT: Looks like this is for a Toshiba Satellite C850/L850 series. Not sure if there's much you can do except get a USB hub.
