So I want to secure erase my ssd with samsung's magician software prior to a clean install of Win7. It's telling me the drive is in a "frozen state". I follow the instructions to disconnect and reconnect the sata cables and type in the dos prompt which tells me that it's a bad command. Really frustrating.
Anybody have any insight here. I assume I need to do a secure erase prior to a clean install.

Basically I run Diskpart under the DOS shell providedon the Win 7 Disk. The other problem may be related to which SATA controllers were talking to the SSD's.
In case anyone else runs into this issue, here's what to do:
- Turn your computer off & unplug it.
- Disconnect all drives except the one you want to Secure Erase (leave your DVD player connected)
- plug it back in, turn on & insert the Win 7 disk.
- Boot from the Windows* installer CD, allow it to load the files, and get to the part where it asks you to choose the time and language.
- At this part press Shift-F10 this will load a DOS environment.
- Type:
CD..
diskpart
List disk
Select disk # (no # sign just the number of the disk you wish to clean)
clean all
- wait.
- keep waiting
- (even with an SSD clean all under DiskPart takes a while)
- When it is finally finished (+/- 20 minutes... ) turn your computer off, unplug & reconnect all your drives, plug it back up & boot normally.
- note: make sure your SSD drives are connected to an intel controlled SATA port - not, for instance, a Marvell or JMicron controlled port (not saying these are a problem per-se - but I don't think the Intel SSD Toolbox or Samsung Magician likes to work with them... or, put another way, Intel likes Intel.)
You should then be able to run Windows installation...don't forget to let the install partition the drive....then the install works like a breeze -
I'm afraid that's beyond my tech ability and I'm booting windows from a USB stick. I appreciate the reply though.

I use Parted Magic and have run into the same problem (mentioned in this thread) - How to: Secure Erase your Solid State Drive (SSD) with Parted Magic
When I get the same result as you, I boot without the SSD connected, then connect after Parted Magic has started. You may or may not want to try the same thing with Magician Software first. -
Thanks Jocelyn, I might give that a try this evening.
The Thunder got robbed last night!
Update:
One of the letters in the DOS prompt was a zero instead of an o. I don't know if I'm ignorant or if Samsung is. There was no slash through the 0 and it looked just like an o to me. I had to email Samsung support to figure it out.
All's well that ends well. Mission accomplished. -
I just did this on my Clevo W110ER which has SSD 830. I first booted the computer with the Secure erase USB-stick made from Driver magician 3.2, it told me the SSD was in frozen state, i disconnected the SSD and then reconnected after 10 sec, no rebooting, and it worked.

The bad command is simply a misspelling of the program. SEGUI0.exe the 0 is a zero and not the letter O.alexhawker likes this.
