So I was looking at these two laptops: HP Pavilion dv7-4171us 17.3" Laptop | Staples®
HP Pavilion dv7-4272us 17.3" Laptop | Staples®
My question is, what makes the 3 hour battery life difference? That seems huge. All the specs are all the same, except for the processor (2.2GHz triple, vs 2.0GHz triple), and the graphics cards are the same, just rebranded (5470 vs 6370). Does that extra .2GHz make that much of a difference? So if I undervolt the 2.2 saying that I buy that one, will I get 7:30 of battery life?

Obviously one has a higher capacity (W/Hr) battery.
Can't see the links you provided, but just check the spec's for the battery - the number of cells and the total W/Hr's is what (must) be the difference.
Downclocking won't make you gain what an additional 3 or 6 cells in a battery will give you.
Good luck. -
Both have 9-cell 93Wh batteries.

Yeah both are 93 WHr
Perhaps it is a typo on their website. Nonetheless, take battery life tests with a grain of salt. -
I also saw the PCMag MobileMark 07 benchmarks, and the 4171 lasted 5:36 while the 4272 lasted 6:57...There's still something going on here. I was thinkin about going for the 4171, but if the battery life is only 5:36, I might have to get the other.

ccfl screen vs led backlights?

Severe battery life difference?
