We have all seen the shiny, polished "F/J/K/L" or "spacebar" keys due to wear and tear on some laptop keyboards, which makes the keyboard look really worn out.
Are there any ways to avoid or slow down the rate of the polishing?

Type with gloves on? I can't think of a way to avoid keyboard wear. You could consider using an external keyboard as much as possible. Most keyboards are easily replaced and can be found on Ebay, so I wouldn't worry about it.
