I'm wondering if I should get a Black for my OS and use my Seagate for storage, or keep it as is and get a cheaper drive for storage. ANyone have 30GB stroke results for the Black?

(Before anyone suggests it, not interested in an SSD. I need 750+ GB)

Loos like you already got a good performer there....
i don't see much point in upgrading to Scorpio Black...
You can look at new Seagate Momentus XT 750GB if you want more performance...

The 7200RPM seagates like the momentus 7200.4 are indeed slow compared to drives like the scorpio black or the Hitachi 7K500/7K750. If you are a speed junky, you'll definitely want the scorpio or 7K750.

The best performer is the scorpio black without a doubt and the hitachis are only a little behind, but much more silent.

Well other reviews reach different conclusions.

I reviewed the 750GB Momentus myself and it came out a lot slower than WD.

In Techreports multi tasking the WD 750GB is significantly faster than the Seagate.

So what you said was accurate,
    1 WD
    2 Hitachi
    3 Seagate

So on paper the drives look similar, but IIRC it took around a minute to cold boot into Windows 7 and open Firefox on the Black while it's taking over 2 minutes on the Momentus w/same programs. Am I remembering that correctly??

The XT 750 is starting to look more appealing now though. Performance seems on par with Black unlike the XT 500. When I had an SSD my favorite feature was how it instantly started all my programs and gadgets upon boot, does the XT do that or does it still take a bit?
