In general, there won't be any problems at all if the interfaces are compatible. The only problem would be to to insert an SSD with SATA interface to a laptop that supports only the PATA interface.

OP This laptop does not have PATA interface. BUT you speed will be limited to SATA II speeds
Sony's BIOS updates have disabled SATA3, so anyone interested in an SSD will either have to live with SATA2 or wait for further updates.

Or skip vaio entirely, as Sony does not give bios updates.
In my 4-5 yrs history with don't vaio. I am yet to see single update for bios or drivers.

They cut out SATA III support in the bios?? Why!!

It seems sony like to limit things in the vaio... like with the ati 4650 ddr3 which was underclocked!

they just dont stop at cutting SATA support on bios.,they also cut support for intel Virtulialization tech.
thats why i say, stay away from sony as they like to limit their customers as per sony's whims and fancies.
