I just realized it is 200 pin. You can disregard my post. Sorry I have a Dell Inspiron i2200 laptop. When I open it up the memory in it says 256mb DDR 333Mhz 184 pin. Everything I have read says that laptops take 200pin. If I buy a 200pin upgrade will it fit in my machine?![]()

If it says 184 pin, get 184 pin for it. 200 pin will not fit.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
SO-DIMMs for laptops do not come in a 184 pin package so something is mis-labelled (Unless you've got a mutant that uses desktop memory?). You need to use 200 pin DDR SO-DIMMs. DDR2 SO-DIMMs have the same number of pins, so watch out.

Dell.com says that the Inspiron 2200 laptops use 200-pin PC2700 memory.

You're running 1 256mb stick? You can go to Crucial.com and get a second 256mb stick for $26.99 or a 512mb stick for $34.99.

Dell systems can be kinda picky when it comes to ram and crucial has a good track record for working well in them. -

Crucial also has absolutely NO "track record" or working better or worse than any other RAM manufacturer.
These kinds of comments are what perpetuate myths and untruths. With absolutely NO DATA to backup your claim, you just throw it out there into the ether as if you have some kind of knowledge on the issue when the fact is that there is NO WAY you could know if the above statement was true or not. -
I have no proof for that? Oh no the fact that my family has owned 3 Dells, that work uses only Dell and I have personally known several instances of Dell being picky with memory means nothing.. You are the one who should go do some research before making stupid statements. Dell being sometimes picky with ram and crucial being a good choice is far from a revelation. I never said crucial was the ONLY ram that works, but never the less my statements are true. You on the other hand, are the one who obviously has nothing to back up your strange little meltdown..

Please keep it under control in here, there is no need for any hostility. Thanks. Everyone has their own opinions and advice.

for the record, certain brands of notebooks have been known to work better with certain brands of ram.....example, the asus c90 and some msi notebooks.

Well you can agree but you'd be wrong *shrugs* Like I said, crucial isn't the only ram that works but it does have a good history. It also happens to be a good brand with a good lifetime warranty at a reasonable price. My recommendation was simply meant as one good and easy option for this user who seems to be having difficulty in finding compatible ram for their notebook, not the end all of the world necessity that so many of you seem to be taking it as. That said, Dell IS somewhat picky with ram, I've seen it and heard of it countless times. That's all I'll really say on the issue. *shrugs* The OP can choose Crucial or whatever they please.

My brother has the Inspiron 2200, and it is a very weird machine, it has 256mb of onboard memory, and only one memory slot. The maximum memory of the system is 1280Mb. You can put a 1Gb Pc2700 memory card into the slot to maximize performance. Yes, Pc2700 is 200 pins.

Should I get 184pin ram or 200pin ram
