When idle my GPU is 40 degrees and CPU 53 but when gaming GPU gets 71 degrees and CPU 87, is this normal? Should I get a cooling pad, but would it still allow my left wrist to rest comfortably on it?

These are by no means alarming temperatures, so you don't have to get a cooling pad.
-
I'd personally get one if money and the extra weight isn't an issue but it all depends on which laptop you have and which cooler you're looking to get.
Some laptops have no ventilation on the bottom case example: Asus N551, G771, G751, etc..which makes no sense to get a laptop cooler for, while others have only ventilation holes one on side or at a specific region of the bottom case. -
Raise the bottom of the notebook

If you are using the Clevo W370SS as stated in your signature, I find it odd that the CPU would go up to such a high temperature.
Question: are you gaming on a flat surface?
Namely, is there enough space between the surface on which your laptop sits and the air vents so the air can circulate through the laptop?
Keeping the laptop on an uneven surface can easily contribute to higher temperatures... though, realistically, those CPU temps (even though not critical) seem out of proportion compared to the GPU - which might lead me to question how well was the thermal paste applied (and which one)?
Have you considered opening the laptop and repasting the CPU? -
First just check if there's a decent space between the bottom of the laptop and the surface it's used on, and consider raising it up slightly. Just that can improve air flow a lot depending on the surface.

Yeah I did a year ago right after I bought it because then it would get 99 degrees when gaming with the standard paste that came with this notebook After I repasted it with Gelid Extreme I got 81 degrees but that was a year ago. -

Gelid Extreme is supposed to be a very good thermal paste, but someone else posted (in another thread) that it needs to be re-applied after a year (which I don't think is necessarily the case).
Octiceps asked a good question though.
When was the last time you cleaned out the fan, as well as the area between the fan and the air vent?
If it was a while ago, I suggest you do it now - you'd be surprised how much dust can accumulate in 1 year). -
