Should I get new CCFL Backlight or new screen?

My girlfriend's HP Elitebook 8440p's screen recently went black and after some tests, I decided it was the CCFL Backlight that is broken and not the inverter board. I saw a video on youtube of someone replacing the backlight and it looks like a pain. Is it worth replacing or should I just buy a new screen?

Also, backlights seemed to be determined only by screen size, and since her 8440 is a 14.0" (I believe) screen, will this one from ebay work?:

And finally, since I hate ebay, does anyone know somewhere else I can get one or somewhere I can get a cheap screen? I've found one for $56:

    Thanks in advance.

I advise NOT to patronize screenmall.com. They sent me the wrong equipment, then kept my money even when I returned it according to their instructions. I have seen similar complaints by others online.

    Depends really.
Getting the CCFL backlight should be cheaper, but it will increase the time frame you have to fiddle with the laptop (you will have to disassemble laptop's screen panel to get to the CCFL - and CCFL's can be relatively fragile, so you have to be careful on handling to avoid breaking them.
Plus you have to make sure you get a proper backlight that fits your screen.

Getting a replacement screen for your laptop would be more costly than a CCFL, but it would also cut the time needed to fiddle with the laptop in general to replace the piece.

I don't know about 'screenmall.com', but I think LCDPARTS.net might be a better option (they seem more reputable and they offer nearly everything you need to replace a backlight (even tracing the appropriate one for your laptop)... I think a full replacement screen is available as well, and there are instructions on how to convert a CCFL based screen into a LED one (a more costly option, but not terribly complicated if you follow instructions, and it would provide long term benefits).

Still, I think a simpler swap out of the panels or replacing the CCFL would be more cheaper as well and practical.

I agree with Deks, I have dealt with lcdparts.net and they were very helpful in advising and prompt, you could also consider converting CCFL to LED which may be a bit costlier than simply replacing the screen but in the long run LED is better.
